Project Details
At the University of Maryland College Park, Nyumburu means “freedom house," stemming from the Swahili words “nyumba”(house) and “uhuru” (freedom). For more than 50 years, the Nyumburu Cultural Center has been part of the UM community. Today, it continues to serve as the foundation for Black social, cultural and intellectual interaction, offering numerous lectures and seminars, art exhibits, workshops, academic courses, and more. For this project, Potomac Valley Brick supplied 103 and 405 modulars from the Redland Brick Cushwa Plant, 1303T modulars from Taylor Clay Products, 160 velour modulars from Acme Brick, and yellow and red glazed modulars from The Belden Brick Company.
