History and Core Values
Potomac Valley Brick was founded in 1976 by Jack Richardson, Ron Hurley, Bud Keesling and Jack’s son, Alan Richardson. Today, Alan remains President and continues to further the company’s goal of being an indispensable supplier to both customers and partners.
At Potomac Valley Brick, everyone is considered part of our extended family. Alan’s wife, Kathleen, is the Director of Human Resources. His brother David and sons Mark and Brad hold key positions within the company as well. We run our business on the core family values of kindness, respect, honesty, responsibility and integrity. We make ethical decisions that are always in the best interest of our employees, vendors and customers.

Need a unique shape or size for your product? We have a staff of expert masons who will consult with you in these special situations. As master craftsmen, our team also offers advice on design and constructability issues. If we’re unable to cut the materials in-house, we’ll work closely with the manufacturer to special order the exact shape and size you need to achieve your vision.

Our History
Alan Richardson and his father, Jack Richardson, along with partners Ron Hurley and Bud Keesling, established Potomac Valley Brick more than 40 years ago. When Jack passed away in 1984 at the age of 57, the partners decided they wanted to sell their company shares. However, Alan was determined to keep the company going despite the many challenges he faced. In 1987, he bought out the partners and became the company’s majority shareholder. Today, Alan remains President and continues to further the company’s goal of being an indispensable supplier to both customers and partners.
Potomac Valley Brick is a family business. Alan’s wife, Kathleen, is the Director of Human Resources. His brother David and sons Mark and Brad hold key positions within the company as well. But at Potomac Valley Brick, family extends far beyond the Richardson name—it encompasses all the company’s dedicated employees, partners, vendors and customers. This approach has resulted in Potomac Valley Brick being the leading full-service, family-owned brick supplier to contractors, developers, architects, builders and residential customers throughout D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
