The original Stonegate Elementary School was built in 1971. For years, planners and school district officials were at odds over the design of new schools due to parking lots and bus loops at the front of the building, “separating the building from the community.” The new 94,215 SF, three-story replacement school was designed to support all learners while addressing steep topography, safety and security, and green space for community and school use. The architectural design and material palette are accentuated by mottled shades of warm, grey tones, vibrant red with blended smooth and wire cut textures, and white masonry units that enhance the school’s appeal and modern sophistication. For this project, Potomac Valley Brick supplied 24” L tapestry units from Shouldice, Vibrant Red Utility Size brick from Taylor Clay Products, and 12 x 24” White Masonry Units from Arriscraft.
